The Mission

Equip Advisory was established in 2021 with the core mission to provide pro-Black financial and career advising services to BIPOC, queer, and trans professionals.

I primarily work with folks who are not typically the target of traditional financial and career services, including individuals and families who are:

  • Just making ends meet

  • Significantly in debt beyond their assets

  • Making under $200,000 per year

  • Unique in their families for their earning and wealth potential

My Core Value: Building Intergenerational Wealth

When I talk about intergenerational wealth, I mean access to money and resources beyond just what you need to ensure physical survival. For many of my clients, the pathway to this kind of financial stability and freedom can feel like an ambiguous or even insurmountable endeavor to tackle on their own. I’m committed to helping my clients get there.

Personalized Pathways

Each journey to financial and career stability looks a little different. Maybe you need guidance on a financial investment or how to make a big career shift. Or perhaps, you need support navigating credit card debt or outlining a plan for retirement when money feels tight. I take the time to get to know you and tailor a plan to your specific circumstances.

I provide my services – equal in caliber and benefit to a larger firm – at a price point that is affordable to households with low wealth and/or low resources. This starts with a free consultation to identify an action plan that meets your needs.

Meet Equip’s Founder:
Kerrie Carden

A Maryland native, Kerrie describes her work as, “a bit of a love letter to all the people and movements who made it possible to be here.”

After graduating from Stanford University, Kerrie started her career in business with a focus on client management and operations at Yahoo!, ClearCompany, and MD Energy Advisors. These early positions revealed her strong mentoring abilities and interests in career development. Kerrie honed these skills in her following positions as Director of Student Entrepreneurship at Johns Hopkins University and Chief Revenue Officer at Invanti, a startup studio and fund focused on supporting pre-idea founders to develop sustainable business ventures seeking to impact kitchen table problems.

In 2020, after two successive experiences of personal loss, the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the country’s short-term, non-curative responses to state-sanctioned murder of Black bodies, Kerrie had reached a critical juncture. She wanted a career that would allow her to give the best of herself to something that was truly making a difference. As Kerrie puts it, “some people learned to bake bread – no disrespect to sourdough starters – I learned financial planning.” With a Certificate in Financial Planning from Howard University, she transformed a hobby of mentoring co-workers into Equip Advisory.

Kerrie’s greatest skill is her ability to listen and understand what you are trying to do and translate that into a concrete plan. She believes that impact at this individual level is what allows underserved communities to build wealth and effect change.
